Renewable Gas (Hydrogen) for Australian Homes and Businesses

Renewable hydrogen is made from the electrolysis process by using renewable wind, solar or hydroelectricity and splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. Renewable hydrogen is a key part to Australia’s transition to green energy and a zero emissions future, working together with renewable electricity for an affordable and holistic approach for a total solution.

One of our industry partners, Australian Gas Networks (AGN), are at the forefront of developing and introducing renewable hydrogen to Australian homes and businesses. It is currently available as a blend with natural gas to selected households in Australia.

A Commitment to a cleaner, greener future

South Australia will soon be home to a new Hydrogen Hub in Whyalla, on the Eyre Peninsula. The project is set to be operational by the end of 2025 and is supported by a $593 million dollar state government commitment.

Creating hundreds of local jobs, the new plant and storage facility is a key step in unlocking a myriad of opportunities for hydrogen across residential, commercial, industrial and export industries.

This comes after the success of pioneering project, Hydrogen Park South Australia (HyP SA); the first in Australia to deliver a renewable hydrogen blend to customers on the existing gas network.

Once complete, the Whyalla Hydrogen Hub will deliver approximately 200x the capacity of HyP SA.

Not sure how hydrogen fits into the energy mix?

We recently sat down with the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group at HyP SA, to explore the benefits of renewable hydrogen and how it works together with the electricity network to help achieve a net zero future. Watch the video below.

Seeley International’s commitment to a cleaner, greener future has shaped operations across our 50 year history. That’s why we invest heavily in R&D, ensuring our gas heating products are “hydrogen-ready” and support the invaluable work being done in this space.
