KFC Goodna, located in Queensland, faced a familiar challenge experienced by many quick-service restaurants, managing the heat and airflow in a high-demand kitchen environment, particularly around the exhaust hoods.
To address this, KFC Goodna took a forward-thinking approach by installing a Climate Wizard CW-H15S Plus (Supercool), an advanced indirect evaporative cooling system. This installation not only delivered fresh, cool, and filtered air but also addressed the broader needs of staff comfort, HVAC efficiency, and energy savings, despite being in a high-humidity region traditionally considered less suitable for this type of technology
KFC needed a commercial cooling solution that was sustainable and cost-effective to work reliably in Queensland’s varying climate. The project aimed to:
Supply filtered, cooled make-up air for the kitchen exhaust system.
Increase staff comfort by reducing the high kitchen temperatures caused by cooking equipment.
Lessen the load on existing HVAC systems, helping extend their lifespan.
Reduce energy use and operating costs.
Improve the indoor air quality by bringing fresh, odor-free air for both staff and customers.
Seeley International’s Climate Wizard CW-H15S Plus (Supercool) was chosen as the ideal commercial cooling solution for KFC. This high-performance, indirect evaporative cooler delivers cool, fresh, filtered air into the kitchen, counteracting the air exhausted by the commercial hood system.
Key Features of the System:
Indirect evaporative cooling, which adds no extra moisture to the indoor air.
The optional Chillcel® module to lower supply air temperature if needed.
Efficient energy use, reducing electricity demand and cutting operational costs.
Fresh air that improves both kitchen and dining areas with clean, odor-free airflow.
While some may question the effectiveness of indirect evaporative cooling in Queensland’s humid climate, this system performed remarkably well.
The KFC Goodna installation brought several benefits:
Improved conditions for kitchen staff, reducing heat and increasing comfort and safety during peak hours.
Energy savings and less strain on HVAC systems, with the Climate Wizard taking over a large portion of the cooling load.
Longer equipment life, as the lower thermal load helped preserve conventional HVAC units.
Better customer experience, thanks to cooler, fresher air in the front-of-house areas, free from odors and humidity.
Sustainability and efficiency, supporting KFC’s broader goals of energy-conscious operation.
This installation not only enhanced staff comfort and energy efficiency but also proved that indirect evaporative cooling can work in Queensland’s seasonal humidity.
