Noumed-Pharmaceuticals SA - Cooling Solution

Noumed Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the UK’s Noumed Life Sciences, has established a state-of-the-art 26,000 m² pharmaceutical manufacturing and warehousing facility in Salisbury, South Australia. The facility has been purpose-built to produce and distribute a wide range of over-the-counter medicines for the Australian market.
The site includes a 3,000 m² GMP-compliant, temperature-controlled warehouse capable of storing over 3,000 pallets of finished, packaged products. This area includes a secured caged zone for the storage of scheduled medicines and serves as a central hub for receiving and distributing products from approved manufacturers.
In its initial phase, the facility focuses on producing liquid formulations such as cough syrups, paediatric suspensions, creams, and nasal sprays, as well as packaging solid dose tablets. A second phase will see the expansion of manufacturing capabilities to include solid dose production. Once fully operational, the plant will have an annual capacity of 40 million units and will support 180 permanent roles across pharmacy, science, engineering, and logistics.
Project Requirements
Noumed needed a specialized HVAC solution to meet strict pharmaceutical standards while keeping staff comfortable. The main goal was to provide 100% outside air cooling for the outbound goods loading and dangerous goods storage areas. The system also needed to maintain a low supply air temperature without adding moisture. This is crucial for preserving the integrity of pharmaceutical products.
The system had to maintain positive pressure using filtered outside air, preventing unconditioned air from entering. Energy efficiency was a key priority, with the goal of reducing operational costs compared to traditional refrigerated systems.
Proposed Solution
Seeley International provided six CW-H15 Climate Wizard units. This efficient, indirect evaporative cooling technology supplies 100% fresh outside air without adding moisture—perfect for sensitive pharmaceutical environments.
The units operate independently, delivering a total airflow of 6,600 L/s and maintaining a steady air temperature of 19.3°C under peak summer conditions (38°C DB / 21°C WB ambient). With a cooling capacity of 54.6 kW and a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 5.0, the system offers excellent efficiency compared to traditional HVAC.
The Outcome
The Climate Wizard system provided consistent temperature control throughout the facility year-round. By using 100% filtered outside air, it pressurized the spaces and prevented air infiltration. This helped Noumed maintain GMP compliance while improving indoor air quality, creating a healthier environment for staff and products.
Besides meeting technical goals, the system achieved energy savings, reduced running costs, and supported Noumed’s commitment to sustainable operations as they expand their production capabilities in Australia.
